Het Italiaanse fotoagentschap Grazia Neri ziet zich gedwongen de bedrijfsacticviteiten te beëindigen, tenzij er nog snel een partner een helpende hand toesteekt. Grazia Neri, genoemd naar de oprichtster, gold de afgelopen veertig jaar als een van de grote Italiaanse kwaliteitsbureaus.
Zoon Michele van Grazia Neri, tevens directeur van het bedrijf schreef vorige week in een mail aan zakelijke contacten: ‘After 42 years of excellence and integrity in the world of italian and international photography and photojournalism, Grazia Neri Agency is now compelled to enter into liquidation. The extreme editorial and advertising crisis that has started in the second half of 2008 and has exploded in 2009 has brought the agency to a severe financial crisis, with a decrease in sales of nearly 40%.’
Neri verwacht geen herstel op korte termijn. Afgelopen jaar bracht het agentschap de staf al terug van 31 naar 18 man, en de financiële reserves die in het verleden waren opgebouwd zijn opgesoupeerd. Zijn mail vervolgt: ‘In this situation, with a huge grief for our history, for the employees, the sales team, the international and italian photographers, agents and friends, for all the splendid human experiences of years, regretting the loss of an important cultural role, Grazia Neri Agency has decided to terminate its activities,’ he continues. ‘In the next months the Agency will continue its operations only to accomplish ongoing projects, tasks and activities which are necessary to the liquidation.’
Grazia Nerivertegenwoordigde in Italië een groot aantal buitenlandse agentschappen en fotografen, onder wie Belgische en Nederlandse fotografen als Bruno Stevens, Wim Klerkx, Frans Lanting, Robert Knoth, Geert van Kesteren en Jan Bannning. Het is het tweede grote Europese bureau dat dit jaar de zeilen moet strijken. Begin augustus kondigde Gamma in Parijs het einde van zijn bestaan aan.
