Voor Joerg Colberg van het blog Conscientious was het duidelijk: de inbreng van met name Erik Kessels tentoonstelling Use me, abuse me, maar ook DutchDoc!Space, waren de enige twee tentoonstellingen die je niet moest vergeten van het New York Photo Festival. Kennelijk was het festival net als vorig jaar verder geen groot succes, althans in de ogen van Colberg.
Kessels productie ‘showed that photography is more alive (and maybe even more fun) than ever. It also proved that if you bring a can-do attitude and combine it with playful creativity then, well, you will make things happen,’ schrijft Colberg, ‘a true gem of a show. And it was very, very well produced.’
De tentoonstelling van Dutch Doc, Zijvanrotteveel en Featuring vond Colberg interessant vanwege de nadruk op het zelf maken van boeken door fotografen. Colberg: ‘The exhibition made it very clear why Holland is one of the centers of photo-book making, a fact that deserves to be known much more widely.’
