De Amerikaanse fotograaf en multimediaproducent Richard Koci Hernandez heeft het de laatste tijd al een paar keer gezegd en nu staat het ook op CNN: Instagram en andere technische ontwikkelingen in de fotografie zijn een zegen voor het medium. Leer ze kennen en doe er iets mee dat bij je past, aldus zijn boodschap.
Op CNN schrijft hij: ‘Some professionals feel threatened as they see the playing field leveling; they interpret it as the end of skill and craft in photography. They should have no fear of such a thing.’
Vorige maand dook zijn naam op in een verhaal bij de British Journal of Photography over Facebook, Twitter en Instagram. De voormalige fotojournalist, Emmy-winnaar en tweevoudig Pulitzer-nominé vertelt er onder meer: ‘The past year and a half has brought me more visibility, more work, more money and more opportunities than ever before. It is not an exaggeration to say that since I joined Instagram, I have received more queries from people wanting to buy my work and willing to pay a decent rate for it, or from editors wishing to feature my photographs or send me on assignments.’
